After returning a 'big name' 18" ring light that cost almost $50 more for lack of app support and now way of adjusting while I was filming - I was blown away by this ring light.First of all - this is one of the few ring lights I could find that will give a cold blue light up to 8500K, or dial way down into golden hour hues. And it does this without having to snap on gel covers - its all controlled in the app, via an included remote control, or by dials/buttons on the device itself. The light itself has a built in diffuser so you don't get LED 'points' on your subject - and it can be dialed up for massive amounts of light - almost painful really if you're only a few feet away its that powerful - but again - easily dialed down to the right levels.The best is probably the app - yes it probably defaults to Chinese when you first launch it on your phone but just tap 'ENG' and you'll get mostly English - all you need to know is CCT - dial your light power up and down and set your color temp remotely. Thats probably where you'll spend most of your time videos, etc.For variety - the HSI tab lets you also dial in colors into your light in almost any variation or intensity which is really surprising (its hard to get colored and white LED's to both work well in the same system) - and are darned good. The third Scene tab is fun - but you'll probably rarely use those.Also - build quality is miles better than the one it replaced - the brackets that count are metal and it feels solid and a good platform for a DSLR and a small monitor. And if you don't like which way the tightening knobs work easy enough to flip it around. Truly impressed - the extra iPad and iPhone holder thrown in are yet another bonus, as is a cold shoe on top of the light, and the option to power it with two Sony batteries which I haven't tested but yet another great option. I even like the molded styrofoam insert in the carry case to protect the light while you carry it around. All told - a refreshingly thought out product that is a lot of light for what I paid.
